We are bound by love

It is easy to feel down at times. After all, it’s human nature to dwell on the negative things that make us sad.
If you watch the television news at night, invariably, the main stories will be depressing: police chases, youth crime, home invasions, fatal car accidents and overseas conflicts. It’s usually one bad story after another.
And then are the colds and viruses that flourish during winter. The dreary, cold conditions are hardly uplifting or a reason to put a smile on most faces.
But life can be positive and uplifting and there is much to be grateful for. For starters, our families and friends are a very good reason to appreciate what we have.
Families can be infuriating and annoying, but they can also be our biggest support. It’s a truism to say, “You can’t live with them, and you can’t live without them.” As we see on occasions such as Christmas, not all families are functional, and relationships can sour. Siblings may bicker while an aunt or uncle may put noses out of joint with an ill-timed comment over Christmas lunch or dinner.
But despite the occasional ill-considered remark, for most families love is the far stronger force that binds us and gets us through the dark times.
So, if you’re having a bad day or feeling down, think of some of the positives in your life. Perhaps even jot them down. You’ll be surprised by how many good things there are in your life.
