HONOURING OUR OLDER GENERATION
“The measure of a society is how well it treats its elderly.”
~ Mahatma Gandhi ~
World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 15th is a time to pause and remember
the quiet strength of older people in our families and communities. Many have spent
their lives caring for others. Now it’s our turn to make sure they feel safe, heard
and respected.
This day isn’t just about preventing harm, it’s about recognising the deep worth of
every person as they age. It’s about creating spaces where older people are welcomed,
included and able to live with dignity.
Taking time to listen, offering help without needing to be asked or simply being patient;
all of these thoughtful gestures can speak volumes. They show care, respect and
love in ways that truly matter.
Let’s build a future where older people are cherished, not overlooked. Their stories
enrich our lives, their wisdom is a gift, and with our love, respect and care we can
brighten their days and make them feel special.
LOVE – PROTECT – RESPECT – CHERISH – VALUE – HONOUR
Dear God, bless the older members of our community. May they feel valued,
respected and deeply loved. Teach us to cherish their lives, listen to their
stories and protect their dignity every day. Amen.
