ARE YOU OKAY?

“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening

ear, an honest compliment or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the

potential to turn a life around.”

~ Leo Buscaglia ~

R U OK? Day, on September 11, reminds us of the power of a simple question.
Asking “Are you okay?” can open the door to a conversation that makes someone

feel less alone. We often don’t realise how much courage it takes for someone to

share what they’re going through, or how much comfort comes from knowing

someone cares enough to ask and listen.

This day is about pausing in our busy lives to check in, not just with those who seem

to be struggling, but also with friends, family, colleagues and neighbours who may

be quietly carrying heavy burdens. What truly matters is reaching out with care,

listening without judgment and letting someone know they’re not alone – whether

through words of kindness, a caring presence or a warm smile.

R U OK? Day highlights the importance of these conversations, but its message reaches

further than one date on the calendar. It’s a reminder to stay aware, to notice when

someone might be going through difficulties and to take the time to connect, not only

today, but whenever we can offer support.

So let us not forget to – ASK. LISTEN. CARE. – It could make all the difference.

“Dear Lord, help us to keep alive the spirit of R U OK? Day in the way we live and care for others. Give

us the courage to ask, the patience to listen and the heart to show kindness, so that through

our words and actions, we may bring hope, comfort and light to those in need. Amen.”
