JUSTICE BEGINS WITH US
“Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good
put together that overwhelm the world.”
 ~ Desmond Tutu ~
Â
Social justice is about treating every person with fairness, dignity and respect. It reminds us that everyone
matters, no matter who they are, where they come from or what their circumstances may be.
Â
In everyday life, we see people facing hardship for many different reasons. Some struggle to afford food or
housing, others may feel lonely or forgotten, while some simply need the chance to improve their lives.
Social justice asks us to be aware of these needs and think about what we can do.
Â
There are many practical ways we can make life a little better for others. Giving our time, sharing what we
have, standing up for someone who is being treated unfairly or simply noticing when a person needs
assistance are all ways we can make a difference.
Â
Our Christian faith teaches us to love our neighbour and show compassion, especially towards those who
are vulnerable and dealing with challenging situations. When we treat others as we would like to be
treated, we contribute to a community where everyone has a place and the opportunity to move
forward in life.
Â
Social justice begins with recognising the worth of every person and accepting our responsibility to
look beyond ourselves and consider the wellbeing of others.

Â
Dear Lord, help us to notice those around us and be ready to help when we can. Guide us to be
generous with our time and thoughtful in the way we respond. May our actions reflect
Your love and bring hope where it is needed. Amen.
