A year of hope begins

Cathedrals and churches across the globe celebrated the start of the Jubilee Year on December 29 in association with the official opening of the Holy Door in the Papal Basilica of St John Lateran in Rome.

 

The Jubilee Year centres on the theme Pilgrims of Hope.

 

The Holy Year in local churches will end on December 28. The closing of the Holy Door of the Papal Basilica of Saint Peter in the Vatican will occur on the Feast of the Epiphany of the Lord on January 6, marking the end of the Jubilee.

 

Hundreds of thousands of pilgrims have already visited Rome and many more are expected in the months ahead. Planned activities over the next three months are:
