As we step into the new year, it’s a good time to reflect on how we treat one

another.  No matter our backgrounds, roles or circumstances, we all share the

same humanity and the same value.  The person serving meals or mending

roads is just as important as the one leading meetings or creating policies.  Each

person carries their own hopes and challenges, even if we don’t always see them.

 We never truly know what someone might be facing, so kindness is always the

right choice.  A smile, a kind word or a small act can have the power to uplift and

connect us.  It costs nothing but can mean so much.  As the year begins, let’s strive

to treat others with respect, empathy and fairness, just as we’d hope to be treated.

 When we view everyone as equals and start by showing kindness, we can all make

a meaningful difference in each other’s lives.
