Protecting our shared home

Â
The annual global celebration inspired by Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si’: On Care for Our Common Home will be held from May 17 to 24. The theme is ‘From Hope to Action’.
Â
Laudato Si’ invites individuals, communities, and institutions to reflect on the relationship between humanity, creation, and God, while encouraging strong measures to protect the environment. The week is both a spiritual and practical call to ecological conversion leading to more sustainable and compassionate ways of living on our planet.
Â
Laudato Si’ Week highlights the interconnection of all life. Pope Francis emphasised the strong link between environmental ruin and social injustice, with the poorest communities often bearing the greatest burden of climate change. As such, people are urged to respond with solidarity, promoting justice and responsible environmental management.
Â

Â
Events include prayer services, educational workshops, community clean-ups, and advocacy campaigns. Schools, parishes, and organisations often take part by raising awareness about issues like climate change and biodiversity loss.
Â
So, Laudato Si’ Week is not only about awareness but also action. Individuals are encouraged to adopt practical changes, such as reducing waste, conserving energy, supporting ethical businesses, and advocating for policies that protect the planet.
Â
Laudato Si’ Week is a call to people of all backgrounds to work as one in protecting our common home and promoting hope for a more sustainable and fairer future for all.
