Recognition for The Majellan
The Majellan has been Highly Commended in the Best Print Magazine category at the Australasian Catholic Press Association Awards (ACPA). The Marist Messenger from New Zealand won the top award in this category.
The Southern Cross (Adelaide) won Best Newspaper while The Good Oil, an e-letter published by the Good Samaritan Sisters, won the Bishop Kennedy Award for Overall Excellence.
The annual awards recognise excellence in Catholic magazines, newspapers and digital publications across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific. The conference and awards ceremony were held at Mount Panorama in Bathurst, NSW for the first time.
Dinawan Dyirribang, a Wiradyuri Elder, welcomed delegates. Speakers included Dr Saranne Cooke, who spoke about the importance of governance while Jacqueline Highfield and Monika Lancucki’s presentations talked about how the Church can promote truth, justice and healing. Stephanie Lorenzo from Voices of Faith spoke about the campaign to better promote women leaders in the Church.
ACPA Life Membership was bestowed upon former president Annie Carrett who was also the guest speaker at the awards dinner.
