Our report
We at Majellan have been busy developing new ways to connect with families in line with our mission. So it is extremely satisfying that our efforts have been recognised by the peak body The Australasian Catholic Press Association (ACPA).
We are very pleased – and proud – to have been awarded the highest recognition available winning the prestigious Bishop Philip Kennedy Memorial Award for Overall Excellence in a Catholic Publication.
We also won three other categories: Best Layout and Design – Website, Best Print Publication and Best Content – Multiple Content Producers. We were also Highly Commended in the Best Use of Digital Media category. All Redemptorists should be proud of this achievement. It puts us at the forefront of using digital and print media in our mission. Â

But we have more to do.
Recently, we introduced the Dial a Prayer service. This enables people who don’t have access to the internet to lodge a prayer request via a recorded message. Like our online sertvice, The recorded message is sent to Michael Kelly and promulgated to you all for inclusion in your prayer times and Masses. It has only just been launched and we have already received several requests. To lodge a prayer request all people have to do is dial our main number – 03 9592 2777 and follow the prompts. I also thank all who support this prayer ministry. This is an important ministry in a time of fewer priests, less Mass attendance and as older people find it harder to travel.
The Dinner Table
This week we have also launched a new ministry we are calling The Dinner Table.
As part of our mission to help heal wounded families we are launching this campaign to help families reunite around their dinner table. Sadly, we hear often that sharing a meal as a family is becoming less relevant in today’s busy world. Research tells us that there are many ill effects on young people when families do not gather for meals. So we are providing ideas, prayers, activities, conversation starters and recipes to help bring families together at the Dinner Table. Visit our Dinner Table to find out more.
Living Word goes digital
The Living Word publications are now only available as a download. This very popular homily resource can now be downloaded from our website. We made his decision due to the rising costs of production and freight and more importantly, help the environment. By providing it digitally we save paper and reduce carbon emissions. Take up has been excellent.
Now that it is digital we are happy to offer all Redemptorists a free subscription. Send me an email at tony@majellan.org.au if you wish to receive your free copy.
The Majellan magazine for Baptism families
We are also sending The Majellan magazine to parishes to give to young families when they baptise their children. We hope that by giving a family a copy of The Majellan it might provide an ongoing connection with their faith that continues after the ceremony. This has been very well received with many parishes taking up the offer.
Lastly, I would like to introduce Cheryl Brodie as the newest member of our team in the role of Communications and Marketing Officer.
Cheryl’s own values include a commitment to her faith and her family. After working in corporate roles in health care and education, it became apparent to her that her faith life includes a goal of a satisfactory and friendly workplace. It is evident from Cheryl’s career and academic commitment that she has a passion for all things communications. She enjoys studying online in the field of journalism at Griffith University and these skills in writing reignited a passion of hers for poetry.  Read more about Cheryl’s story and send a message of welcome here.
