Food insecurity bites the less fortunate

Food insecurity bites the less fortunate

The recent floods and COVID-19 pandemic have resulted in a worrying situation with the average family struggling to pay for their weekly groceries.

The sudden jump in food prices has been disastrous for people already feeling the effects of cost-of-living increases. Sadly, food insecurity is growing in Australia with people skipping meals or buying less healthy options. The demand on charities has also risen dramatically.

Though not at fault some families don’t seek help because they feel shame.

As today is International Day of Food Loss and Waste Reduction, it is a reminder that many people go hungry every day. It is also a reminder for those who have more than enough to eat but regularly throw out food. Waste not, want not!
