Our call to be “missionary disciples of Jesus” is based on the Exodus experience of the Jewish people. Yes, God enables the Jews to be liberated from slavery, but much more is at stake. God addresses Moses like an earthly king pledging to confer on Israel the dignity of a “priestly kingdom” and a “consecrated nation”. The Israelites, on their part, are called to pledge themselves to God’s law which is about to be given to them in the Ten Commandments.

Then and Now

Henry Jozefowski from Cairns emailed The Majellan recently thanking us for sending our 70th anniversary book to him and his wife, Mary. He said the book brought back many memories and the many blessings from St Gerard that “helped us through our many years”. Sadly, Mary passed away aged 86 in November. “We had our 65th anniversary in May 2022, and now I will still keep up the subscriptions to the magazine as I do enjoy reading it even at this age of my 90th,” said Henry.

Recent opinion polls indicate that support for the Indigenous Voice to parliament has fallen, raising concern that the referendum this year might fail. This would set back the reconciliation process with our First Peoples who for decades have tried to have a voice to governments on issues directly affecting them.
